Waisak at Borobudur Temple

Avatar semutpotret2@gmail.com

Waisak, also known as Vesak, is the most important holiday in Buddhism, commemorating three sacred events in the life of Gautama Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and death. It is celebrated on the full moon of the lunar month of Vesakha, which usually falls in April, May, or June.

In Indonesia, Waisak is celebrated with various ceremonies and rituals, most notably at the Borobudur Temple. Thousands of Buddhist monks and devotees gather to chant mantras and meditate in a ritual called “Pradaksina”. The celebration also involves releasing lanterns into the sky as a symbol of hope and prayer.

Waisak is an important time for spiritual reflection, meditation, and good deeds. Buddhists typically offer food or alms to monks and engage in various charitable activities.

The Waisak celebration at Borobudur Temple is one of the largest and most important religious events for Buddhists in Indonesia. Here are some of the series of events that are usually carried out during the Waisak celebration at Borobudur Temple:

Taking the Holy Fire and Holy Water: The procession begins with taking the holy fire from Mrapen, Grobogan, and holy water from Umbul Jumprit, Temanggung. The fire and holy water are then taken to Mendut Temple to be sanctified.

Waisak Kirab: On the day of the celebration, a kirab or procession is held from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple. Thousands of Buddhists walk while carrying holy fire and water, as well as various offerings.

Waisak Moments: The peak of the celebration is during the Waisak moments, which mark the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. Buddhists gather in the courtyard of Borobudur Temple to meditate and repeat mantras.

Lantern Release: One of the most awaited moments is the release of lanterns into the sky. These lanterns symbolize the hopes and prayers of Buddhists for peace and prosperity.

The Waisak celebration at Borobudur Temple is not only an important moment for Buddhists, but also attracts many tourists who want to witness the beauty and solemnity of this event.

So have you ever photographed the Waisak ritual? And what do you feel about the sensation of spiritual experience in your mind and soul?

This is a story and sensation of my imagination and inner thoughts in following the Waisak ritual. From all the series of photos above, it depicts a simulation of a life journey from beginning to end.

Enshrined in holy water and eternal fire, enveloped in air and earth, symbolizing the four elements of life that give rise to the creation of life. existing dance becomes existent, and is carried towards real life, Borobudur temple is a depiction of the temporary stage of human life.

a life in the spiritual realm, they are given advice and a picture of life about which one to choose so that the journey of human life when it returns will return to its creator. After completing the phase of contemplation about the awareness that humans are not definite existences, they are only aware of existence but also non-existence because there is a higher awareness, namely the all-conscious.

Humans begin to be born with thoughts and memories in the spiritual realm stored in a vacuum that is not easy to reach. Surrounding life ( Pradaksina Borobudur) as many as 3 times How is the picture of reincarnation life to know the true identity to return.

The light of the lantern is a depiction of the soul and body, everything will return to the true light without bringing a body but a consciousness.

This is the experience and sensation that I felt and one of the tour participants, we felt it together, how do you feel, photographing Waisak is not just taking pictures but witnessing enlightenment.
